Holiday Test

Portfolio for: Gürgenler Spool & Fittings Manufacturing

Holiday testing is a critical quality control process for polyurethane coating systems, ensuring the coating's integrity and effectiveness. This test identifies discontinuities, such as pinholes, cracks, or voids, that may not be visible to the naked eye. These flaws can compromise the coating's protective properties, leading to issues like corrosion or contamination of the substrate. By detecting and addressing these defects early, holiday testing helps maintain the coating's durability and performance, especially in harsh environments like chemical storage tanks or buried pipelines.

Implementation of Holiday Testing:

  1. Preparation: Ensure the coating is fully cured before testing to avoid false readings caused by residual moisture or solvents.
  2. Low-Voltage Wet Sponge Method: This method is suitable for coatings with a thickness below 500 microns. A moist sponge connected to a low-voltage detector is passed over the surface. If a flaw is present, the sponge completes an electrical circuit, triggering an alarm.
  3. High-Voltage Spark Method: For thicker coatings, a high-voltage detector is used. The probe is moved across the surface, and any discontinuity allows the current to pass through, causing a visible spark or an audible alarm.
  4. Repair: Once defects are identified, they are repaired according to the coating specifications to restore the system's integrity.

This process ensures that the polyurethane coating system provides reliable protection, meeting the required standards for its intended application.
